Details: The B3 is the classic American flying jacket. It was based loosely on the British Irvin jacket and became the staple for bomber pilots throughout the war. This B3, made by original military supplier Schott is as nice as they come. Its made from thick nappa leather with all natural sheep wool. The jacket also features the correct leather welted seams, brass zipper, buckled collar and waist adjustment straps. The jacket is, in nearly every respect, faithful to the original. The one area in which it differs is the pocketing. Schott has added two convenient hand pockets which make it so much more practical for wearing on the street. The original, by contrast, had just one small map pocket. McQueen wore a B3 in the movie, The War Lover, in which he starred next to Robert Wagner and Shirley Anne Field. Like the jacket that McQueen wore in the film, the Schott version comes in a worn, antiqued finish. Its a cracking jacket that no self respecting bomber crew personnel would ever have taken off, either on the ground or in the air. After the war, the B3 became a highly desirable fashion item and today originals are extremely collectible. All we can say is that this B3 is as practical and cool as it was in the day. And if youre looking for a Schott jacket that will keep you warm in even the coldest of conditions, youve just found it.
